Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic approved the transaction, which the company Medirex takes half share in the laboratory diagnostic company - HPL. Company Medirex is owned by Radoslav Bardún together with German partner Hans Jacob Limbach. Medirex also owns hospital in Malacky. Owner of HPL is doctor Juraj Hanzen. Medirex in 2010 has turnover of € 27.5 million. Medirex company reported that by connecting with HPL will be create the strongest Slovak group in the field of laboratory diagnostics.

State General Health Insurance Company plans to extend its influence in hospitals. From January it should start choosing for healthcare institutions the external suppliers of laboratory tests. Currently it is already centrally purchasing some pharmaceuticals for them. According to the Director of General Health Insurance Company, Marcel Forai, the aim of central purchasing is saving. Central purchasing of laboratory tests should save approximately € 6-7 million in 2013.

Investment group Penta has sold medical laboratories in Slovakia and Czech republic – Alpha Medical, Inc. and also the Polish branch of laboratories – Alpha medical Polska Sp. Z.o.o. Buyer is an investment group Mid Europa Partners. Both investors do not want to publish the amount of the transaction. The sale is for now a subject to the approval by the antimonopoly offices.

Hospital in Zvolen, member of group Agel, in these days started the complete modernization of laboratories. The result of the reconstruction will be a common haematological and biochemical laboratory. Costs are estimated to amount of € 150 000. The aim of reconstruction is to build a modern operation and to increase overall efficiency by merging of two laboratories. Such modernized laboratory will in future enable to handle more than double of samples compared to current situation.
