Ministry of Health proposes to include into the terminal network of hospitals totaly 34 hospitals and 2 medical institutions. Concept of terminal network of hospitals in Slovakia will be renewed from October. Network should include 8 institutions from Bratislava region, 7 from Košice region and 6 from Banská Bystrica region. Nitra and Žilina region will have both 4 institutions included, Prešov region will have 3 and Trnava and Trenčín 2 institutions included.
Control in the hospitals and outpatient clinics is saving health insurance companies an appreciable resources. In 2011 it was € 237 million for all three health insurance companies together. Compared to previous year the financial effect from controlling activity reached the increasing by almost € 69 million. For all that, lower number of employees of health insurance companies than in previous years was needed for their controls.
Slovak Trade Union of Health and Social Services has signed the higher level collective contract with the Association of Faculty Hospitals. Contract adjusts the salaries of all employees in 17 faculty hospitals by 8% with effect from July 1, 2012. Trade union wants to enforce the similar adjustment also by the Association of Hospitals in Slovakia, which associates other, smaller hospitals. The aim of the trade union is to achieve the adjustment of salaries of all employees in 62 hospitals associated in the Association of Hospitals in Slovakia.
Ministry of Health led by Zuzana Zvolenská wants to have better overview about management in the state hospitals. This should be provided by the automated data collection from the information systems of the institutions. Ministry will learn more about the financial and operation costs from it. Ministry wants this way make a possibility to regularly evaluate and compare the financial and operation indicators in hospitals.
Running of hospital in Trstená is in danger, as the laboratory employees from radio-diagnostic department have filed the mass notices. This means that from August hospital will not be able to operate and do the X-ray and CT examinations. Hospital in Trstená is the attraction zone for upper Orava. More than one hundred patients are being examined in this department daily. Laboratory employees has filed the noticed allegedly because the former director of hospital, Peter Dančík, increased the wages nurses but refused to increase wages of laboratory assistant.
After turn-out of Minister of Health Zuzana Zvolenská only some executive managers maintain their positions in the hospitals in the scope of Ministry of Health. In hospitals – subsidized organizations the current directors are appointed to manage only temporarily. In specialized hospitals, however, the names are definitive. Only director of hospital in Poprad, Jozef Tekáč, and director of National Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, Mongi Msolly, remained in their positions. They both have been on these positions since 2006.
Condition of Slovak hospitals fully reflects the situation in our healthcare system. Robert Fico's Government intends to change it through the completion of two large hospitals. Besides Rázsochy, which should serve to patients from whole country, Government wants to construct also the St. Michael Hospital for soldiers and policemen. The estimated date for initiating of the construction is second quarter of 2013.
Doctors and hospitals might have last year disseised the health care system of more than € 200 million. This was found out by health insurance companies, which by the controls detected the fictitious services or mistakenly billed procedures and pharmaceuticals. These were thanks to the controls finally not covered. Doctors are fighting back and blame the system. In the case, when insurance company find out, that doctor or hospital is charging the services, which have never been performed, they might end up in court.
At the end of last year the Nitra self-governmental region started the negotiations with potential investors on the possible leasing of hospitals in Levice and Topoľčany, which are managed by the non-profit organization Nemocnice s poliklinikami (Hospitals and Polyclinics). They submitted their offer to the companies Angel and Penta. Region, however, refuses to inform on the stage of current negotiations and also which applicant should finally get the hospitals.
Insurance company Dôvera has signed the contracts with all university, faculty, regional and specialised health care institutions. Policyholders waiting for the planned operation may thus enter the hospitals. Part of the new contracts was also the dissolution of state reserve between providers. Hospitals will draw the reserve from July until the end of this year. It should cover the wage claims of nurses and doctors.
