Self-governmental regions will no more decide on authorization for providing of hospital. Ministry of Health wants to take this task to itself. Currently, the Ministry has licensing power for issuing the permits for emergency medical service ambulances, specialized hospitals, research and tissue facilities, bio-banks and reference laboratories. From the beginning of new year also general hospitals, including faculty and university hospitals, should join these institutions.

General Health Insurance Company (Všeobecná zdravotná poisťovňa) and Union Health Insurance Company have offered the small and medium hospitals associated in the Association of Hospitals in Slovakia the same payments for next year, as they are getting this year. While the proposal of General Health Insurance Company was accepted by the Association, the offer of Union has been refused and Association is waiting for the next proposal. This offer was allegedly disadvantageous, as the proposal in the frame of bed health care was allegedly lower than in 2012.

New, reconstructed areas of the ground floor of the polyclinic were opened in Hospital in Zvolen, a member of group Agel. Thanks to the reconstruction worth € 100 000 will be available the new navigation system and central information desk. Hospital has already made a new neurological outpatient clinic and new areas for gynaecology last year. After reconstruction are also available modernized laboratories and the new pharmacy.

Tariff salaries of employees working in hospitals associated in the Association of Hospitals in Slovakia should increase by 2.5% from October 1, 2012. By same per cent should increase also from January 1, 2013.  This is a verdict of an arbitrator Ľubomír Majerčík in the dispute for closing-down of the collective contract of higher level between the Association of Hospitals in Slovakia and Slovak Trade Union of Health and Social Services.

Without systematic changes in healthcare system the loss of three hospitals in the scope of Trenčín self-governmental region will this year reach the amount of € 5.5 – 6 million. This is an opinion of director of hospital in Prievidza, Ladislav Gerlich. Region still wants to get a rid of hospitals in Považská Bystrica, Myjava and Bojnice and return them back to state. According to Gerlich, this is a system problem, as the legislation adjustments of minimum wage claims of healthcare professionals were adopted and the costs of salaries automatically increase the costs of hospitals.

Nitra self-governmental region is again trying to sell the hospital in Šala. The offered complex is divided into five parts. Region reduced the prices set by the expertise by almost a third, so the price was totally decreased to € 3.5 million. Main building is currently being used by private doctors. Hospital was until 2010 operated by non-profit organization Forlife, which belongs to the group Agel. The reason of its departure was debts and no contracts with insurance companies.

Introducing of new payment mechanism, DRG system, does not follow the plan. Healthcare Surveillance Authority is allegedly not able to meet the deadlines agreed with German company InEK. Project is practically still at the beginning and whole schedule has to be forwarded. For all that, in July the Healthcare Surveillance Authority has informed that from January 2013 the live operation of the DRG system should be launched. The resources should have been according to optimists divided among hospitals through the new system in 2014.

Management of Central Military Hospital in Ružomberok has approved the considered reducing of staff. From the beginning of December the 1500-member team of the largest employer in Ružomberok will be reduced by almost 120 administrative workers. The only reason of announced layoffs is, according to the spokesman of the hospital, the effort to streamline the operation of the hospital and reach the more balanced financing.

Slovak healthcare professionals, as well as their colleagues from V4 countries, will come out in front of their hospitals at the end of November to point to problems in healthcare system. Doctors together with other healthcare professionals will gather in front of selected hospitals for five minutes. Representatives of Medical Trade Union did not specify yet, in which hospitals in Slovakia and which day this event will take place.

Bratislava according to Prime Minister Robert Fico needs a new top university hospital. He therefore delegated Minister of Health Zuzana Zvolenská to submit to the negotiation of the Government the material as soon as possible. This material would offer the insight into the solution of possible completion of hospital Rázsochy in Bratislava, as well as the alternative way to this step in the form of a brand new hospital. Government will afterwards decide on the proposal of Minister Zvolenská
